Dec 1, 2022

The Reverend and the Reprobate sit down with Captain Wren C Thomas and Lori Vangilder-Preuss on the show this week. In 2013 Capt Thomas was taken captive by pirates off the coast of Nigeria. He tells the RevRepPodcast about how he survived the ordeal and the ongoing challenges he still faces.

Captain Wren C. Thomas worked for 28 years as a merchant mariner, working his way to a Master's License to be the Captain of his vessel. Captain Thomas enjoyed working on the ocean highways until his ship was hijacked by modern day Nigerian pirates. He was taken hostage for 18 brutal days in the rainforest of the Niger River Delta. Captain Thomas also devotedly served his country as a U.S. Marine. He is a proud & grateful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. (Credit: Title Town Publishing)

Kidnapped and held for ransom for 18 days by Nigerian pirates, Captain Wren Thomas suffered horrors, bringing to life the reality of modern-day pirating. Faith carried him during and after captivity, a beloved PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) service dog named Beaux, eventually saving his life once again. In this first-person survivor account, Captain Thomas brings readers into the ocean, onto his ship as he and his team fight off the pirates, and ultimately within the captivity camp. Devastatingly clear as it is inspirational, Capt. Thomas warns the world with his story of danger on the ocean highways, which gives us a rare glimpse of what it takes to survive. Pirate Hostage contains journal entries and perspectives from family surviving the initial FBI notifications and beyond. (Credit: Title Town Publishing: "Pirate Hostage")
